Bayern Munich suffer narrow defeat to Bayer Leverkusen- Player Ratings

Bayern Munich suffers first defeat under Hansi Flick as Bayer Leverkusen register a memorable 2-1 win at Allianz Arena.

Manager Rating-
Hansi Flick — 6/10
Flick has been spot on regarding team selections in the previous five games. However, he made a minute error on Saturday by dropping Philippe Coutinho for Ivan Perisic. Along with the selection error, Flick took too long to make substitutes in the second half.

Player ratings-
GK, Manuel Neuer — 7/10
Bayern’s best player on the pitch. The club captain kept Bayern in the game by making numerous saves throughout the game. He also came close to conceding a goal after making a poor pass in the first half but recovered well to keep Leverkusen’s tally to two goals.

DEF, Benjamin Pavard — 6/10
A poor showing for Benjamin Pavard in defense. The Frenchman was struggling against Leon Bailey throughout his time on the pitch. His delivery in the final third was way below par as he hardly found a Bayern player in the box. Pavard’s eagerness to play the pass early often led to Leverkusen’s counterattacks.

DEF, Javi Martinez — 6/10
Martinez has been solid in defense for Bayern over the past few weeks. However, he still struggles against fast forwards. Bailey got the better of him with ease for Leverkusen’s goal. His passing was up to the mark, but defensively he looked all over the place as Leverkusen’s attacking players kept on targetting him.

DEF, David Alaba — 7/10
Alaba was the best defender on the pitch for Bayern. He defended resolutely against Leverkusen’s forwards. The Austrian brought the ball out of the defense calmly. Unlikely to be dislodged from central defense anytime soon.

DEF, Alphonso Davies — 6/10
Alphonso Davies struggled in the left-back position for the first time. The Canadian winger linked up well in the final third, but defensively he had a difficult time against Moussa Diaby. He gave away the ball cheaply in the build-up to Leverkusen’s first goal. A difficult game for the teenager.

MID, Joshua Kimmich — 6/10
Along with Lewandowski, Kimmich has been the most consistent performer for Bayern this season. After being rested against Red Star Belgrade, he returned to the lineup but failed to deliver his usual midfield masterclass. He was out of position while defending, and passing was also poor by his standards. A rare poor showing from the German international.

MID, Leon Goretzka — 6/10
Goretzka continued his recent upturn in form as he looked dangerous in the box for Bayern. However, his finishing was not on point as he had numerous chances to score goals. He came close to equalizing late in the second half as his thumping header hit the woodwork. It was a dynamic display from the German midfielder, but he lacked the composure at important junctures of the game.

FWD, Serge Gnabry — 6/10
Gnabry was a menace in the final third, but he had forgotten his shooting boots in this game. The German forward got into some terrific positions throughout the 90 minutes, but his finishing was way below par. He had the golden opportunity in the final quarter of the game to equalize, but he fluffed his lines and missed the target by a mile.
