Barcelona aren't planning to sign players in January transfer window (Marca)

Barcelona have no intention of signing any new players in the upcoming January transfer window.

This is due to the significant investment they made in the summer on players like Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong.

The club are happy to keep the squad they currently have as they look to challenge for trophies in the second half of the season.

Player exits will be allowed in January, but only one or two.

Carles Alena will be leaving after Barcelona and Real Betis agreed a loan deal for the midfielder.

Jean-Clair Todibo could leave too and, with various clubs interested in him, Barcelona are willing to let him go away on loan.

Instead of signing players in January, the Barcelona board will start planning their transfer targets for the following season.

They could be in the market for a right-back, but that will depend on how Nelson Semedo and Sergi Roberto are performing in that position.

A centre-back is also on the agenda, but that will depend on whether Samuel Umtiti can get back to his best or whether the club want to trust Todibo and Ronald Araujo more.

The Blaugrana are also working on bringing in a central midfielder, with Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal likely to leave next summer as their deals end in 2021.

Finding a backup for Luis Suarez up front is also a priority and it has been for the past couple of seasons.

The option of Neymar will be evaluated, but the high cost of the operation could prove to be a stumbling block.

There are also doubts over the future of Ernesto Valverde, who is expected to leave at the end of the season, although a final decision is yet to be made.

Therefore, the club are working on finding his replacement, with Ronald Koeman one of a number of possible options.
