Leicester City 'open contract talks with Brendan Rodgers amid Arsenal interest'

Leicester City have reportedly commenced talks over a bumper contract for Brendan Rodgers in an attempt to ward off interest from Arsenal.
The former Liverpool boss has attracted keen interest from Arsenal in their bid to replace Unai Emery after guiding Leicester to second in the Premier League table this season.

Reports claim that, under his current deal, Arsenal would have to shell out a compensation fee of £14m in order to prise Rodgers from the King Power.

According to The Telegraph, Rodgers has been offered a lucrative contract extension and could sign on the dotted line in the coming days, thereby killing all chances of Arsenal poaching him as their next permanent boss.

The Gunners are said to privately accept that they will not be able to appoint Rodgers at this moment in time, with the 46-year-old recently emphasising his commitment to Leicester.

Arsenal came under greater pressure on Thursday after losing 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in Freddie Ljungberg's first home game as interim coach.
