The slow-burning contract talks that are frustrating Semedo

Nelson Semedo received a good offer to leave Barcelona for Atletico Madrid last summer.

He was the right-back Diego Simeone wanted to sign and, despite Atletico's insistence and the player's willingness to go, Barcelona decided against letting him depart.

At the start of this season, the Catalan club began talks with the Portuguese over a contract renewal, with a view to him forming a part of the team's future.

However, the negotiations aren't going very quickly.

Barcelona's huge wage bill means it's difficult to increase Semedo's earnings in a new deal this season.

Although this detail isn't ideal for Semedo, it's not what's most annoyed him.

What has annoyed him is that there have been reports in recent days that Barcelona are considering selling him.

The right-back can't understand this and it's surprised him that these reports have been widespread.

The Barcelona board must decide what they want to do with Semedo.

He was meant to allow Sergi Roberto to return to central midfield, but he hasn't been able to do that.

Meanwhile, Moussa Wague hasn't been able to establish himself in the first team.
