Ashley Young: Conte was fundamental in my choice to join Inter

In an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Inter new recruit Ashley Young has spoken on how he has settled in in the time since completing his move.

The experienced defender joined Inter on an initial six month contract from Premier League side Manchester United earlier on in the January transfer window and there is an option for his contract to be extended by a further season.

The 39-time England international first spoke on how he has found settling in and why he decided to leave United to join Inter at the age of 34.

“I feel very well here, I immediately felt at home and at ease. The staff and my teammates have welcomed me well. It has been easy to fit in.

“I wanted to have a new experience, United wanted to wait for the summer but I took the opportunity to come immediately. I think it is important for a player to face new challenges and have new chapters in their career.”

He then spoke on his two appearances he has made so far which have both came as a starter against Fiorentina and Cagliari.

“We have qualified for the Coppa Italia semifinal [after the win over Fiorentina] but I am disappointed with the draw aganst Cagliari because I think we should have won that game.”

The former Aston Villa player, who broke onto the footballing scene as a tricky winger, concluded the interview by speaking on his new manager Antonio Conte and how big a factor him being in charge of Inter was behind his move.

“He was fundamental in the choice to come here. He already wanted to take me with him to Chelsea. He is a fantastic manager, who has the ambition to win trophies and it is like that for me too.

“Inter is a monumental club, one of the top clubs in the world where the goal is to win trophies. The fans are incredible, they are always by your side and it was easy to get used to this team.”
