Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix admits he plans to return to Benfica

Joao Felix may have only been at Atletico Madrid for six months, but he is already eyeing a return to old side Benfica later in his career.

Felix left Portugal for Spain's top flight in July, costing Atletico Madrid a mammoth £113million, and has since gone on to score two goals in his 12 La Liga appearances.

It has not been all plain sailing for the 20-year-old, and he admits he is already looking ahead to the future and a return to his home country.

On an episode of Benfica Play, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, he said: 'Now I see how happy I was at Benfica. I plan to return one day and leave my mark on the club.'

Felix also looked back at some of his most memorable matches in the first team at Benfica, and he picked out a 4-2 Europa League triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt, in which he scored a hat-trick.

'On the third goal I did, I cried,' he said. 'I took a whole weight off. Two days before, in the locker room, I heard comments that didn't suit me. I went to the bathroom to cry. Nobody knew, but then I got the hat-trick and got free, I gave it my all.'
