Carragher admits Liverpool's winning goal should not have stood

Liverpool came away from their match against Tottenham Hotspur with a 1-0 victory, however Spurs fans may feel aggrieved with the goal.

It came from a Liverpool throw-in, however replays showed that it was Sadio Mane who got the final touch before it went out of play.

Jamie Carragher admitted on Sky Sports after the goal that it should have been a Tottenham throw, but also agreed that it was a tough call to get right.

'No it should have been a Tottenham throw in (that led to the goal) but the linesman is other side of the pitch, referee is behind, they’re always difficult ones to give,' said Carragher.

'Tottenham don’t cover themselves in glory from the throw in, Mourinho would be so disappointed,' he continued. 'Alderweireld should be closer but Winks gets done on the run and then the organisation goes and it becomes a pinball machine and fantastic first touch from Firmino and goal.'

The loss means Jose Mourinho's men are now without a win in four, and slip a little further behind in their quest for a spot in Europe next season.

Carragher's fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp had nothing but praise for the quality of Liverpool's goal.

'From Liverpool’s view the goal is quality,' said Redknapp. 'Composure from Salah, that touch from Firmino is wonderful. It bubbles up, not an easy one stays composed doesn’t even look, knows where the goal is, it’s a brilliant finish.'

The win means Liverpool have now recorded the best start to a season by any team in Premier League history.

With 20 wins and a draw from 21 games, they are 16 points clear of second place with a game in hand, and appear to be cruising towards the title.
