Cerezo: Atletico Madrid have no doubts over Simeone

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has leapt to the defence of Diego Simeone after recent criticism of the team's performances.

El Cholo has come under fire after the recent Copa del Rey defeat to Cultural Leonesa and Sunday's goalless draw with Leganes.

"The [criticism] seems unfair to me and cannot be carried out," Cerezo said at the Madrid Sporting Press Association awards.

"He's the coach that has given us the most titles and you have to bear in mind that there is no team in Spain that has kept a coach for at least eight years and those that remain.

"We don't doubt him at all. We're delighted with him. Everyone has bad games."

Atletico have been linked with a move for Edinson Cavani in January and Cerezo gave an update on the possible transfer.

"It's complicated, but what I'm telling you is that there's absolutely nothing to it. Nothing more than excitement," he said.

"We need to score goals and we have great goalscorers. What's happening now is that we're not having the luck that we had before.

"There a few days left [of the transfer window], you will have to wait and see."
