Newcastle fan hit where it hurts by kicked CORNER FLAG after late winner

Last minute winners from their side are often recalled by supporters as among their happiest memories.

But one Newcastle United fan's excitement was cut short after Isaac Hayden's 94th minute header against Chelsea in their 1-0 victory over the Blues.

Matt Ritchie has a habit of kicking corner flags in celebration, but the winger's actions following Hayden's winner backfired this time around.

Ritchie celebrated the goal by running to the corner to join the goalscorer and kicked the corner flag, but the flag was sent flying into the jubilant crowd and hit one fan in his genitals.

A video on social media went viral soon after, with the man in question seated and clearly in pain as the jubilant home crowd clapped the Newcastle players off the field when the full-time whistle had been blown.

The row of fans behind him and the person filming the video obviously saw the funny side of the story, and filmed the corner flag that was eventually handed back to the stewards to be placed back on the pitch.

Weirdly enough it has been injury that has kept Ritchie out of the team for most of the season, after coming off after just 48 minutes during August's Carabao Cup game against Leicester.

The 30-year-old Scotsman remained on the sidelines until earlier this month and made his return as a substitute in the FA Cup third round draw at Rochdale.

He then started the win in the replay 10 days later and came on in Saturday's affair after just 12 minutes following an injury to Jetro Willems.
