Valverde's harshest farewell: Sacked after three seasons at the top

Rome, Liverpool and Jeddah have sealed Ernesto Valverde's fate as Barcelona boss.

Aside from these moments of disaster and debacle, the Spanish coach will be remembered for his spectacular consistency.

Valverde leaves Barcelona top of LaLiga Santander after winning the title in the previous two seasons he was in charge for.

That's two and a half years at the top of the most demanding league in the world.

Of the 95 matchdays that Valverde was coach, Barcelona were top of the table for 81 of them.

In terms of goals, Valverde's side scored 238 (2.5 per match) and conceded 88 (0.92 per match) in LaLiga Santander.

His record in the Copa del Rey wasn't bad either. Barcelona reached the final in both of his full campaigns in charge, winning the 2018 one against Sevilla and losing the 2019 one to Valencia.

It was in the Champions League where Valverde fell short, with those humiliating defeats to Roma and Liverpool particularly damaging to his reputation.

The final blow came in Saudi Arabia as Barcelona threw away another lead, this time in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final to Atletico Madrid.

Valverde leaves the Camp Nou having taken charge of 145 games as Barcelona boss, winning 97, drawing 32 and losing 16. Follow us on Google newsTwitter and on Facebook
