The stats speak for themselves as Atleti have scored just once in the 514 minutes since their final goal against Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final, whilst facing opposition of varying quality.

It is understandable, then, that Simeone was hotly pursuing PSG striker Edinson Cavani during the January transfer window, albeit unsuccessfully.

With Atletico set to take on Liverpool in the Champions League, and facing key fixtures domestically, the Argentine will now need to find a solution to the club's goalscoring drought if they are to consolidate their place in LaLiga Santander's Champions League spots.
