Klopp predicted Liverpool winning the league five years ago, at his first press conference

Liverpool are almost certain to win their first league title in 30 years and no one will be less surprised than Jurgen Klopp, with the manager predicting it when he was first announced as manager.

When Klopp was appointed as manager of Liverpool on October 8th 2015 the Reds were in 10th in the Premier League, having finished sixth the season before.

However the German was very optimistic and predicted at his first press conference that within four seasons they'd have at least one league title, saying, "Last night we signed the contract and this morning I wake and I'm manager of Liverpool FC.

"Please give us time to do the work but when I sit here in four years I think we may have one title.

"If not maybe [I'll win] the next one in Switzerland!"

The Anfield side then drew their first two games under Klopp, against Spurs and Southampton, but in his first press conference the new boss also explained it was how he finished there and not how he started, saying, "I said when I left Dortmund it's not important what you think when someone comes in. It's important what you think when people leave. That when you leave it's a special day.

"Twenty-five years ago (since the last league title) is a long time. History is only the base for us, (we shouldn't) keep the history in our backpack all day.

"I want to see the first step next week and not always compare with other times. This is a great club with big potential. Everything is there. Let's try to start a new way."

There's pretty much no way Liverpool throw away their lead in the league now. Klopp's side are 22 points clear of closest rivals Manchester City with just 13 games to go.

Having dropped points only once this season, the 1-1 draw with Manchester United in October, they need just six wins to win the title, and that's with City not dropping another point, something that seems highly unlikely

Klopp's prediction coming to fruition that if a club is run well and a manager is given time then they really can turn things around.
