Patrice Evra reveals he helped Brandon Williams get Man United breakthrough

Patrice Evra has revealed he played a starring role in the emergence of Brandon Williams into the Manchester United first team.

The teenage defender has been one of the breakthrough performers at Old Trafford this season, and has been tipped for a long future with the Red Devils.

Williams hasn't looked back since making his debut for the club in September, and now it has emerged club legend Evra ensured his opportunity was given after watching the youngster play.

'I'm doing my coaching badges at Manchester United, I go like two weeks per month to do my course, and someone sent me a video about Brandon,' Evra said recently on the COPA90 YouTube channel.

'I was watching it and was like "wow, he has got something I really love".

Evra then revealed he made the point of going down to one of the United youth sessions in order to get a closer look, before taking his findings to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and putting in a word.

'I went to the training and actually he was with the U21s, and they made me do a session as well with the U21s,' Evra added.

'So, I saw him, and he was tough, and after the training session I went with the first-team and I saw Ole. I said "Ole, do you know about that kid Brandon Williams?' 'Yeah, they say he is good."

'I said "trust me Ole, since I left I can see he can play he can play at left-back." I said please give him a chance.'

The conversation clearly worked, as Williams has now featured 10 times in the Premier League with three months of the season left to play.

The youngster already has a goal to his name, and five yellow cards in what has been a fiery start to his career at Old Trafford.
