Real Madrid players begin training in quarantine

Having been placed in quarantine in their homes, Real Madrid players are following a personalised training programme to keep fit.

The entire first team squad were sent home from Valdebebas on Thursday after basketball players Trey Thompkins tested positive for coronavirus.

Some of the players, like Raphael Varane and Lucas Vazquez, have been sharing pictures of themselves training at home on social media.

The quarantine restrictions state that the Real Madrid players have to stay in their homes for the next two weeks and the club want them fit if the season continues after that.

Practically all of them have their own gyms at home, so it's just aerobic exercise which might pose them a few problems inside the walls of their own house.

They didn't want to play
The Real Madrid players were surprised that LaLiga hadn't initially suspended their upcoming fixtures, with Dani Carvajal venting his frustration on social media.

When their fixture with Eibar was meant to kick off at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Friday night, the stadium and streets surrounding it were empty.

That's the effect this outbreak has had on sport and Spanish society in general.

After finding out that Thompkins had tested positive for coronavirus, Zinedine Zidane's squad accepted their quarantine and were reminded by the club that they should limit social contact and not leave the house.

Karim Benzema: I am legend
The striker documented his day in quarantine on Instagram on Friday, treating it with a good sense of humour.

"Quarantine is crazy. I'm here in my garden with nothing to do," he said.

The Frenchman referenced the sci-fi film 'I am legend' about a virus attacking New York as he spent his day in his garden with his dog.
