Ter Stegen played more passes than three Real Madrid outfielders

It has long been known that Marc-Andre ter Stegen is excellently suited to Barcelona's style of play, given the fact he is so composed with the ball at his feet, and he even played more passes than a number of Real Madrid's outfield players on Sunday in El Clasico.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach stopper attempted 41 passes on Sunday evening, which was more than Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Vinicius, while he was also tied with Fede Valverde.

For Ter Stegen 85.4 percent of his passes were successful, which was actually the second worst completion percentage behind Nelson Semedo's 77.6 percent.

Ter Stegen found it difficult to find efficient solutions in the face of Zinedine Zidane's well-thought pressing game.

Thibaut Courtois at the other end made just 18 passes, 23 fewer than the German international, but rather crucially his completion rate was infinitely more successful.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper completed 94 percent of his passes and this hints at the difference in playing style between the two clubs. Follow us on Twitter and on Facebook
