Simeone knew Atletico Madrid would beat Liverpool

Diego Simeone had no doubts that Atletico Madrid were going to come out on top against Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Los Rojiblancos eliminated the Premier League side form the Champions League before the 2019/20 season was suspended after a second leg win at Anfield, which followed on from their home win.

But Diego Godin has explained that he spoke with the Argentinian coach before the tie got underway, and he never doubted his side would win at home.

"Diego, I know that at the Wanda we'll beat them," Godin, while speaking with ESPN over Skype, claimed Simeone told him.

"I don't know if it'll be 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1, but we'll beat them.

"The issue is the return leg, but I'm convinced the boys also believe we'll win at the Wanda."

Although Godin left for Inter last summer, he hasn't stopped supporting the club he once captained.

"When they achieved that [progression] at Anfield, I was crazy," the defender added.

"Atletico have had a difficult year with enough ups and downs in LaLiga [Santander].

"So it was a good change of mood, especially at that stadium and how it was done.

"Now I'm like a fan and I can enjoy it in the best way." Follow us on Google newsTwitter and on Facebook
