Spain manager Luis Enrique requests 25% salary cut

The initiative came from the Asturian coach who asked that the Spanish FA (RFEF) drop his salary by 25% following the impact of the pandemic.

Luis Enrique requested that the Spanish FA cut his salary by 25% as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 virus. The Spanish national team have not played a game for six months and at present everything points to another period of six months before 'La Roja' are back in action. The Asturian earns approximately 1.5 million euro per season and will see this reduced by 25% during the pandemic.

The RFEF have been badly hit with recent scheduled games against Germany and the Netherlands in March along with forthcoming matches against Portugal and Lithuania being cancelled which will impact on the federation's bottom line.

The biggest financial blow for the FA was the postponing of Euro 2020 which is set to deprive the institution of an income of at least 15 million euro. These factors were instrumental in Luis Enrique's decision making.

The federation's finances were recently boosted however by the staging of the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia last January with the Riyadh based games contributing to a 120 million euro injection to the RFEF bank balance.
