Busquets: I want to succeed and earn a place in Barcelona's first-team squad

Having spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Twente in the Eredivisie, Oriol Busquets has made clear he wants to make a place for himself in the Barcelona first team.

The Dutch season has been brought to a premature end as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which will hasten the Spaniard's return to Catalonia, although the club are unsure of his role moving forward.

"I have the hope of doing pre-season with the first team and making a place for myself in the squad," Busquets explained in an interview with EFE.

"It's very difficult because the level of the group is very high, it's the best team in the world.

"This is my dream and I will work and give everything to make it come true."

Busquets has been a key player for Twente this season, playing both in midfield and at centre-back, and his performances have sparked interest from several other clubs, including Mainz, Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Celta Vigo.

"I want to succeed at Barcelona," he added.

"After many years of effort, both from me and my family, now I see the first team a little closer, I want to fight to make it happen."

His contract with Los Cules runs until June 2021, but there is an option for two further years and his buyout clause stands at 200 million euros.

Despite having dreams of forcing his way into Quique Setien's squad, Busquets is not out of touch with reality and he accepts he may have to go out on loan again.

"If this year it can't happen and I have to leave on loan again, I will leave with the same ambition to continue developing," he confirmed.
