Liverpool set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Napoli defender Khalidou Koulibaly

Liverpool is set to beat Manchester United to the signing of Napoli defender Khalidou Koulibaly in the summer.

Liverpool is in dire need of a centre defender and the Reds are prepared to go toe-to-toe with Manchester United for the signature of the defender.

Manchester United has been credited with interest to sign the defender in the past season but the Red Devils directors are unable to meet his valuation quoted by Napoli chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis.

The asking price for the 29-year-old defender has dropped significantly with Napoli ready to do business in the summer.

Napoli in financial trouble because of the coronavirus so the defender’s price tag could see a dramatic decrease from the £100million it was before the pandemic.

The report in Tuttomercatoweb claim that could open the door for Liverpool to make a move for the 28-year-old with Jurgen Klopp viewing Koulibaly as the ideal replacement for Matip.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on signing a world-class defender to partner Harry Maguire at Old Trafford and he is keen on signing the Senegalese defender.

Paris Saint-Germain is also interested in signing Koulibaly in a bid to replace Thiago Silva who is expected to leave the Parc des Princes at the end of the season.
