Madrid first-team players to undertake coronavirus tests from Wednesday

The 25 players of Real Madrid's first-team squad are to undertake coronavirus tests at their training complex in Valdebebas, starting from Wednesday, May 6.

The decision was made in light of the de-escalation phase brought forward by the Spanish government, which permits athletes to get back to work on an individual basis.

During the seven weeks in isolation, not a single Real Madrid football player has experienced symptoms of COVID-19, however each player will be obliged to take a test as La Liga has made this compulsory.

The only positive case of coronavirus so far within the Real Madrid organisation has been American basketball player Trey Thompkins, which led the club to carry out various disinfection procedures.

Not only will the playing staff be tested, but the coaching staff and background staff will have to take one too.

The club started to inform its employees of this yesterday in a series of meetings.

The tests are the first steps in the return to a new normality, where the players should be able to train individually at their training facility as of Monday, May 11.
