Manchester United set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Sunderland star Joe Hugill

Manchester United is set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Sunderland star Joe Hugill, as the player looks to have agreed of a deal in principle to move to the Old Trafford.

Premier League clubs have shown interest in signing the youngster from Sunderland, the likes of Arsenal, Everton Leeds, Tottenham and Wolves have all shown interest as well as Liverpool.

The Red Devils have reportedly agreed on a £250,000 transfer fee with Sunderland for Hugill, and they’ve also agreed to pay the 16-year-old a salary of £1200-a-week.

Hugill would not be able to sign a professional contract until October when he turns 18, but he will be their player and they’ll hope for him to develop and become a first-team player, following the path set by the likes of Marcus Rashford.

Liverpool has been credited for the signing of best young stars in England and it is no surprise that the Reds are keen on signing him.

Liverpool will have to consider elsewhere for recruitment following the defeat in the race to land Hugill.
