Manchester United to 'reignite interest in £38m-rated Napoli star Hirving Lozano'

Manchester United are ready to reignite their interest in Napoli winger Hirving Lozano, according to reports in Italy.

United were in the hunt to sign the Mexican while he was at PSV last summer, but Napoli won the race for his signature and broke the transfer record in doing so.

However, the 24-year-old is yet to hit the ground running in his debut season in the Serie A where he has struggled for minutes before the coronavirus pandemic brought Italian football to an abrupt halt.

United will now look to the seize the opportunity and try and sign the £38.5million forward – not only for his footballing ability, but for his potential marketing value as well, according to Corriere dello Sport via ESPN Mexico.

Lozano has a huge following in Mexico, which would be something United would look to capitalise on – just like they did with Javier Hernandez, who became a cult hero at the club.

United have apparently had their eye on Lozano since he was a teenager, according to Lozano's former club president Jesus Martinez.

Martinez, who was president at Pachuca where Lozano broke through, said his ultimate dream would be to see 'Chucky' at Old Trafford one day.

Martinez told ESPN Deportes last year: 'What I can say and guarantee is that Hirving has had a Manchester United scout watching him since he was 16.

'They have his whole record. They have everything: videos, goals, behaviour, qualifications. They are one of the clubs with the best scouts and professionals in that area.

'My ultimate dream would be to see [Lozano] at United and Hector [Herrera] at Atletico Madrid. It would be my dream and theirs.'

However, United may face competition from Everton who could ask Napoli for Lozano in a swap deal with Moise Kean, who upset club officials after his lockdown breach last month.
