Mauro Icardi to Remain at Paris Saint Germain

Mauro Icardi is staying put at French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain as his parent club, Inter Milan has agreed to allow the club’s former captain to make his loan deal permanent.

The 27-year-old Argentine striker left Italian Serie to French Ligue 1 on a one-year loan deal with an option to stay permanently if PSG pays the €70 million buy-out clause embedded in his loan contract.

While at the club in the disrupted 2019-2020 season, Mauro Icardi scored 21 goals in all competitions for PSG and he is looking forward to leading the club’s attack in the 2020-2021 season.

The possibility of this happening is extremely high because the striker who could have competed for that position with him is Edinson Cavani but his contract with PSG will expire on June 30. The likelihood of Cavani getting a contract extension is extremely low, hence, he might leave the club this summer as a free agent. He is currently linked with a move to a couple of Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United.

According to reports, Mauro Icardi through his wife and agent, Wanda Nara, has agreed a four year deal with PSG with the consent of Inter Milan. Reports say Inter Milan has always wanted such a deal to happen and all the three parties involved – PSG, Inter Milan, and Icardi are happy with the deal.

Instead of the €70 million buy-out clause on Icardi’s loan deal, the three parties have agreed on a €50 million transfer fee, besides a €7 million add-on fee. Inter Milan reportedly decided to lower their asking price because of the drop in revenue being suffered by most clubs in Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Icardi began his footballing career at La Masia, the youth system of La Liga club Barcelona, before moving to Serie A club Sampdoria to begin his professional career in 2012. He left Sampdoria to join Inter Milan in 2013 where he spent 7 years and became the club’s captain at age 22.

He is the 8th all-time highest goals scorer at the club and has helped the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 6 years in 2018. He left the club to cross to PSG in 2019 where he is expected to stay until 2024. Follow us on Twitter and on Facebook
