Setien & his coaching staff hopeful that Suarez will return after COVID-19 break

Quique Setien is keeping in close contact with his coaching staff as Barcelona plan for a return to action, and those around him are hopeful that Luis Suarez will return after the coronavirus-enforced break and be like a new signing.

The Uruguayan striker had been ruled out for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, with Los Cules even signing Martin Braithwaite as an emergency measure, yet it seems as though the delay to action has given Suarez the time to recover.

Fran Soto, the Blaugrana's fitness coach, has assured Setien that Suarez's recovery has gone well and that once training restarts he will be able to work under the same conditions as the rest of his teammates.

Eder Sarabia, Setien's assistant coach, has gone a step further and all but guaranteed the return of the former Liverpool star.

"We're hopeful that he will be like a great new signing," Sarabia declared.

"Until now there was a summer window, a January window and then a period of confinement.

"We have this belief about Suarez because we've seen him work like crazy to recover quickly."

With Ligue 1 having awarded their domestic title to Paris Saint-Germain as they were 12 points clear at the top of the table when the competition stopped, Setien has been forced to look at a similar situation in Spain, where his Barcelona team would be crowned champions in such a scenario, despite only having a two-point advantage over Real Madrid.

"The virus hasn't been the same in every country and decisions are being made according to the reality of the country," Setien confirmed.

"I'm looking forward to finishing the season, I wouldn't like to win the championship in this manner.

"If we can continue, it would be common sense to do so; you have to complete the season."
