Sunday Oliseh Missing 2002 World Cup
Former Super Eagles captain and coach Sunday Oliseh believes his absence at the 2002 World Cup in South Korea/ Japan, which ended being Nigeria’s worst performance at the Mundial, immortalised him.

The 45-year-old had a great impact during his time with the West Africans as a player and was part of the side that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations.

Oliseh speaking in an interview with The Punch stated that he does not have any regrets being shown the exit door from the Super Eagles after all the sacrifices he had made for the national team.

‘’I don’t because there’s nothing that happens by mistake’’, Oliseh told Punch when asked if had any regrets being kicked out of the Super Eagles.

‘’Even the 2002 World Cup in South Korea/ Japan, which ended being Nigeria’s worst performance at the Mundial, immortalised Sunday Oliseh and others as those who did well for the country in the past. And when they were not there, the team crashed.’’

Oliseh was stripped of the captaincy of the Eagles for standing up to the then sports minister.

The former Juventus midfielder and his fellow compatriot and teammate, George Finidi, were dropped from the national team after the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali.
