Gernot Rohr urges €30m-rated Nigerian attacker to join Liverpool

Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr believes Victor Osimhen has the chance to join a ‘huge’ Premier League club in the summer transfer window amid speculation linking the striker with Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United.

Nigeria international has established himself as one of the finest attacking footballers in Ligue 1 and was having an impressive campaign with the Ligue 1 giants before the covid crisis brought French football to a halt, racking up 13 goals and four assists across the season.

Only Neymar, Dembele, Ben Yedder and Mbappe have scored more goals than Victor in the Ligue 1 this term. Victor’s form has not gone unnoticed across the channel, with Reds and Chelsea all eyeing summer moves for the striker, and his boss at international level has urged him to leap.

Rohr said: ‘Victor Osimhen will have a huge opportunity to go from Lille perhaps to England or Italy to a very, very big team. This is a success for him but also for the Super Eagles to have players at Champions League teams. If we have players playing at a very high level for their teams, our level in the Super Eagles will be growing also.’

Though Rohr understands why the Nigerian striker may be hesitant over a move, he’s confident the centre-forward can play at the top level. Back in April, the 21-year-old revealed his ambitions to join a ‘very big club in England’ and thanked Nigeria partner Odion Ighalo for the advice he’s given him at the start of his career.
