Klopp ignites Sancho interest rumours with latest remark

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Jadon Sancho “would look very good” in a Reds shirt – but admits a transfer for the Borussia Dortmund winger is unlikely.

England winger Sancho continues to be linked with an exit from the Westfalenstadion this summer with Manchester United said to be leading the race for his signature.

Liverpool have been more tentatively linked, but Klopp suggested a move this summer is fanciful.

Speaking at a live event with German outlet Bild, he said: “A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho. But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer.

“He is a very interesting player. If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all.”

Sancho, 20, is one of the most highly-rated young players in world football having burst on to the scene in Germany following a move from Manchester City as a teenager.

He has scored 20 goals from 43 outings in all competitions this season and has established himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squads.

Klopp has a settled front three at Anfield with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino forming one of the most-feared forward lines anywhere in the world.

But the addition of Sancho would certainly provide competition at the top end of the pitch and improve the Reds’ strength in depth as they bid to follow up this season’s remarkable title success next term.

Manchester City’s defeat at Chelsea on Thursday night confirmed the triumph.
