Klopp Reveals Why Liverpool Pulled Out Of Timo Werner Transfer Race As Chelsea Completes Signing

Why Liverpool Pulled Out Of Werner Transfer
Chelsea have confirmed the £53million signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
The Germany forward had been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool before Frank Lampard swooped in.

Reports previously suggested Jurgen Klopp was desperate to bring his compatriot to Anfield in the summer transfer window.

But according to The Athletic, Klopp was forced to call Werner personally and explained how Liverpool would not be going ahead with the move after all due to budgeting reasons.

And in a recent interview with Sky Germany, Klopp shed light on Liverpool’s decision to pull out of the race for Werner.

“All clubs are losing money,” he said.

“How do I discuss with the players about things like salary waivers and on the other hand buy a player for £50-60m — we’d have to explain.

“If you want to take it seriously and run a normal business you depend on income.

“And we have no idea how much the club will earn — especially because we don’t know when we can start playing in front of spectators again.

“At the moment, without spectators, we have to pay back on season tickets and probably sell none next year.

“At least maybe the first 10 or 15 games. VIP areas won’t be packed and tickets won’t be sold.”
