Michael Ballack praised Chelsea’s decision to sign Timo Werner

Ex Chelsea player Michael Ballack has spoken about Chelsea signing is country man Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

Ballack who played for Chelsea for four years from 2006 to 2010 has praised the decision of his former employee to beat Liverpool to the signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that the Germany international has agreed to join Chelsea this summer following a conversation with Frank Lampard.

Liverpool had been favourites to sign Werner after Jurgen Klopp held extensive talks with the striker. But Chelsea are now ready to pay Werner’s £54 million release clause and have offered the 24-year-old a contract worth £9m per year. ‘I think it’s a good decision for both sides. For Timo, because he fits there, because the way [Chelsea] play football suits him,’ Ballack told Sky Germany.

‘I think that in Chelsea he has decided on a club where he has a better chance of playing, which is very important to him.
