A ‘White Lives Matter’ Banner was flown over the Claret’s game with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Monday evening and the club have condemned the action.

Lancashire Police have said they are making full enquiries to make an assessment over whether a criminal offence has been committed with the message ‘White Lives Matter’ that was flown over City’s game with Burnley on Monday.

A Burnley supporter has taken responsibility for the banner and has refused to apologise for his actions.

But it is not yet clear whether he will face criminal action after a statement released by Chief Supt Russ Procter read: “We are making full enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and we will then be in a position to make an assessment as to whether any criminal offences have taken place.

“We recognise that this banner will have caused offence to many people in Lancashire and beyond and we continue to liaise closely with our partners at both the club and in the local authority.”
