Abramovich wants Lampard to fight for premier league next season

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol feels Abramovich is hungry once again to make Chelsea serial winners in English football.

He reckons the Russian billionaire is ready to take advantage of the dwindling stocks of players in the post-pandemic market.

The respected insider feels Abramovich is prepared to back Lampard with some top-quality signings because he wants the Blues to close the gap on Liverpool and Man City.

Solhekol told the Premier League Review: "We're seeing this pattern developing in the last few months.

"Roman Abramovich is kind of reengaged at Chelsea, he seems to have got the hunger back, he seems to have really backed Frank Lampard, he wants to take the fight to Liverpool and Manchester City next season, and he knows that to be the best you have to buy the best.

"He's in this incredible position this summer where he has got a lot of money when a lot of other clubs - Chelsea's competitors - don't have money to spend.

"Also, prices have come down a bit so being the great businessman that he is, he spotted a great opportunity in the market and he's going to take advantage of it and buy some really good young players for Chelsea."

Abramovich's commitment to the club has been called into question in the recent past following his UK visa issues but the Russian really seems hungry for some silverware once again - we all know that he's a winner - having transformed the club's fortunes completely since buying out the club's stocks in 2003.

Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already been roped in to bolster the attack and a potential deal for Kai Havertz, which seems likely to materialise, could well take the Blues spending to over £150m this summer - a massive outlay in the post-pandemic market!
