Arsenal Gabriel Martinelli ruled out of the season with knee injury

Arsenal striker Gabriel Martinelli has been confirmed to miss the remainder of 2020 with a knee injury

The young player who had often been a bright spot in an uninspiring Arsenal team before the lockdown suffered a knee injury less than a week after the season restart.

Gabriel Martinelli is not expected to feature for Arsenal until the next year, the Gunners' official website confirms.

In the last week of June, the Brazilian forward underwent successful surgery on his left knee that he injured in training.

The 19-year-old is currently at Arsenal's training centre and is going to continue his recovery for several months; he's not going to return to full training until the end of 2020.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian fourth-tier side Ituano last summer for just about ₤6 million.

He became one of the revelations of the Arsenal side, scoring ten goals in all competitions and becoming the first teenager to reach double digits for goals in a debut season since Nicolas Anelka.

Martinelli already signed a new long-term contract with the North London side a couple of weeks ago.
