Benfica vs Guimaraes predictions Preview, Betting Tips and Odds

Benfica vs Guimaraes predictions ahead of this Portuguese Primeira Liga clash on Tuesday.

Benfica’s faint hopes of retaining the Portuguese Primeira Liga title were dashed by a 1-1 draw away to Famalicao last time out but they should still have enough in their locker to see off Vitoria Guimaraes.

On course to finish second in the standings, Benfica has managed only two wins in seven matches since the league’s resumption, although they have been unlucky in recent weeks.

In their 2-0 defeat to Maritimo, they won the shot count 19-5 and saw 65 per cent of the ball while their 4-3 loss at home to Santa Clara beforehand was the consequence of two late goals and they won the shot count 15-6 on that occasion.

Squad depth makes all the difference
They have a range of options in the final third including duo Carlos Vinicius and Pizzi, who have netted a combined 29 league goals, along with Rafa Silva, Haris Seferovic and Franco Cervi.

That attacking depth means that even when the games come thick and fast, manager Nelson Verissimo is able to rotate and, eager to record as many points as possible, they can rise to the occasion to see of Guimaraes.

Although considered contenders for a top-six berth in the league, Guimaraes are on a poor run of form. They have won only two of their previous seven league contests and those successes came against Vitoria FC and Portimonense said lingering in the depths of the division.

Goals at both ends expected
Defensive deficiencies have cost them this season – they have managed only four clean sheets away from home in the league this season – but they have clicked in the attacking third with 50 goals in 31 league matches.

Guimaraes have failed to score only five times all season in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and, considering Benfica have conceded in three of their last four league wins, the best match prediction could be a home win and both teams to score.

Guimaraes have managed to score consolation goals in defeats to Rio Ave, Porto, Braga and Gil Vicente since the start of the year and, given they lost by a one-goal margin when these sides met in January, a 2-1 scoreline could be the best bet in terms of a correct scoreline prediction.
