Juventus vs Lazio Preview, Betting Tips and Odds

Juventus vs Lazio predictions ahead of this clash in Serie A on Monday night.

Could Lazio spark title chase?
When Serie A was halted, Lazio were the biggest contenders for Juve’s title. These two sides were warring with each other over restart plans, while they’ve already clashed in two key encounters since Maurizio Sarri took charge. The new Juve boss missed his first chance to lift silverware by losing the Super Cup to Lazio in December, after losing the league meeting in Rome.

A third win for Lazio could once again harm Sarri’s silverware hopes. The title race looked over, but Lazio would only be five points off the top with a victory here. Juventus are winless in three games (D2, L1), conceding at least twice in each match, so the visitors will head here aiming for a win. However, Lazio have gained only one point from their last four league games (D1 L3). Who will end their poor form in this showdown?

Must win clash for Sarri
Juve’s poor run has brought back the questions over Maurizio Sarri’s future. While it’s obvious that his project in Turin would take more than a year to come good, no one wants to be the man who let an eight-season title-winning streak fall through their fingers. Having lost the Super Cup and the Coppa Italia final, the former Napoli boss needs to prove himself a winner.

His team should deliver, given their excellent home record. While Atalanta picked up a point at the Allianz last weekend, they are in much better shape than this Lazio side. Meanwhile, that draw was only the second time this season that Juve have dropped points at home. With 14 wins and two draws from 16 at home, they have a record worthy of champions.

On top of that, Sarri can call upon his biggest weapon yet again here. Cristiano Ronaldo goes face to face with Ciro Immobile, his rival in the race for the golden boot. Ronaldo is just a goal behind after failing to score in midweek, despite having 10 attempts on his own. Ronaldo has scored in 17 of his last 19 league appearances, while he’s scored in the last two league meetings between these two. Given that he is firing Juve towards glory, he’s our anytime goalscorer prediction.

Lazio to suffer in Turin again
Lazio have lost 81 games against Juventus – more than against any other Serie A opponent. Meanwhile, the Old Lady have scored 269 goals against the Biancocelesti, their favourite target in the league. Given that Juve have scored 20 goals in seven since the restart, they should have enough to overcome a Lazio side who don’t tend to win many of these big games.

After winning the reverse fixture, Lazio could record a double win against Juve in the same Serie A campaign for the first time since 2000-01. That win in March 2001 was also the last time that Lazio beat Juve in their second meeting of the season. We see Juve securing the points this week, but with the hosts seeing both teams score in five straight games and potentially missing Matthijs de Ligt, Juve to win and both teams to score is our pick.

Of Juve’s 24 wins this season, nine have finished 2-1 to the champions. Lazio has lost by the same scoreline in half of their away defeats, while each of their losses on the road has come by a single goal. That has us backing a 2-1 home win as our correct score prediction here.
