Roma vs Fiorentina Preview, Betting Tips and Odds.

Roma vs Fiorentina predictions ahead of this Serie A clash on Sunday.

As good as it gets for Roma
In a week which saw Roma crush SPAL 6-1, the Giallorossi have hit their ceiling. Their wafer-thin hopes of Champions League football were dashed by Lazio’s win at home to Cagliari on Thursday night. That has left Roma 11 points shy of the top four, so the only way they can go from fifth-place is down.

The impact of that blow could hurt Roma, who will now be turning their attention to their Europa League campaign in August. That’s their only means to make it back into Europe’s biggest competition. Could they take their eye off the ball as a result and drop points to a solid Fiorentina outfit?

Fiorentina making progress
The hosts are certain of safety and chasing a place in the top half. They could yet make that climb, as their recent form has been impressive. The visitors have gone six games without defeat, holding Inter Milan to a draw on Wednesday night. The Viola have taken seven points from their last three away games, so they are well placed to cause problems for this Roma side on Sunday.

The visitors have certainly improved defensively. No side has kept more clean sheets than Fiorentina since the start of 2020 in Serie A (seven, including their last two games against Torino and Inter). Their result at Inter proved how tough they are to break down. While they sacrificed a lot of possession to the Nerazzurri, Fiorentina sat back and frustrated the hosts. That kind of defensive display could trouble Roma this weekend.

Defensive strength to blunt Roma
While the hosts have been among the goals lately, they have met some underperforming sides. They’ve beaten two sides who are already relegated in their last five games, as well as Verona and Parma sides who are struggling for results of late. Even their clash with Inter counts as a generous fixture, as the Nerazzurri looked utterly limp in that 2-2 draw. Fiorentina will instead offer a more robust defence of their own box, restricting space for the Giallorossi.

Roma has had an issue in their home games this season, as their record against bottom-half sides is poor. They’ve swept away what is a poor bottom three, but outside of that the Giallorossi have won just once in six matches. Having only kept two home clean sheets – against the sides in 18th and 19th – we see Roma as vulnerable in our predictions here.

As a result, we’re backing Fiorentina on the Double Chance market to frustrate another top side. Fiorentina have drawn 60 times against Roma – more than they have against any other opponent in Serie A. Following that record, we are backing a seventh 1-1 draw of the season for the Viola as our correct score prediction.
