Roma vs Verona Preview, Betting Tips and Odds

Roma vs Verona predictions ahead of Wednesday’s match in Serie A.

The hosts claimed another victory at the weekend as they cruised to a 3-0 win over Brescia. That has kept them in fifth spot, as they look to ensure they don’t slip down the table in the final weeks of the season.

Roma have the Europa League to look forward to, with that competition offering a possible route into the Champions League. They need to approach it in strong form, but could their defensive issues hold them back? In our predictions ahead of this clash we’re expecting Verona to take full advantage of Roma’s issues in defence.

Verona crawling to the finish
The visitors are enjoying a fantastic season back in the top flight, as they’re on for a top-half finish after threatening to make a run for Europe. They’ve looked really solid so far, but a return of one win in six isn’t ideal. After drawing back to back games the visitors are running the risk of a slow finish to a great campaign, with their defence consistently letting them down.

Verona have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight Serie A matches. While they’ve been praised for their defensive efforts this season, the visitors have produced just one clean sheet away to the sides above them. They’ve lost four of five clashes with the current top six. That run is likely to continue with Roma coming back into form.

Tricky clash for visitors
Verona haven’t got much from their visits to Roma of late, which doesn’t bode well for them in this trip. In the three-point era, Roma are unbeaten at home against Verona, including seven wins (six of which with at least three goals scored). Having won 3-1 in the reverse meeting earlier this season, we expect the Giallorossi to secure another three points against the out of form visitors.

However, Roma have conceded 22 goals in the second half of this season, already one more than they had in the whole first half of the campaign (21). They have managed only two home clean sheets all season, so we are backing goals in this encounter. Roma to win and both teams to score is our pick for this clash, with a fourth 2-1 away defeat for Verona our correct score prediction. That’s a scoreline which Roma have seen four times at home this term, including twice in their last three games here.
