Sheffield United vs Chelsea Team news, Betting Tips and Odds

Sheffield United was unbeaten in eight of their last nine home league games, both teams scored in three of Sheffield United’s last five home matches. Sheffield United and Chelsea drew 2-2 earlier this season, the Blades scored exactly 1.0 goal in three of their last four home fixtures.

Blades rediscover their edge
Sheffield United continued their recovery from their early restart wobble in mid-week with another impressive win over Wolves at Bramall Lane on Wednesday evening.

After his late heroics at Burnley, defender John Egan was again the Blades’ goal-scoring hero at the death against Wanderers, nodding home an injury-time winner from a corner to seal the three points for his team in hugely dramatic fashion.

United’s victory, which followed hot on the heels of their equally notable 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Steel City a week ago, pushed them up to 7th place in the table and to within a swinging distance of recently vanquished opponents Wolves just ahead of them in 6th.

Chelsea up to third
A hard-fought and sometimes nervy 3-2 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park catapulted Chelsea over Leicester City and into 3rd spot on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Olivier Giroud, the in-form Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham helped the Blues to carve out a victory on the other side of London that could prove a pivotal moment in the race to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Their aberration at West Ham on July 1 aside, Chelsea has been producing the goods for a sustained period now, winning six of their last eight Premier League matches overall since late February.

That 3-2 reverse at the Irons pointed to a weakness or two on the road, particularly in defence, that Sheffield United will hope to exploit this weekend, however.

Sheffield United tough to conquer
Chelsea won two of their three away games since the Premier League’s resumption last month, though their victories at Aston Villa and Crystal Palace remain their only wins on their travels in seven attempts.

The Blues could find the going equally tough at Bramall Lane on Saturday against a Sheffield United team that have the tactical and organisational nous to make life difficult for any Premier League opponent.

With four wins from their last five league matches on their own turf, Chris Wilder’s Blades should have plenty of momentum and confidence to call upon this weekend, and having avoided defeat in 11 of their last 13 Premier League fixtures in Sheffield overall since late October, we think United look generously priced in the double chance market for Saturday.

Sheffield United proved a match for Chelsea when the teams drew 2-2 at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, and our correct score prediction of 1-1 for the teams’ rematch on Saturday forecasts a similarly even contest at Bramall Lane.

The Blades’ success at home since the restart has been built on typically robust defensive foundations, though their attacking output remains modest – as evidenced by their run of scoring exactly 1.0 goal in three of their last four matches in Sheffield.

Chelsea possesses greater individual quality in forwarding areas that their hosts, though the sum of Sheffield United’s defensive parts have allowed them to concede 1.0 or fewer goals in 100% of their last nine home outings. With those factors key, a 1-1 draw looks a backable outcome.

Key Battle: George Baldock vs Christian Pulisic
Highly dependable right wing-back George Baldock has been an ever-present for Sheffield United this season, starting 100% of the club’s Premier League fixtures since their promotion from the Championship last year.

The 27-year-old has chipped in with a credible two goals and three assists from his right-sided berth this term, though he will need to engage the more defensive parts of his skillset on Saturday to cope with the red-hot Christian Pulisic.

The US international attacking midfielder has been electric since the restart, bagging three goals in five league appearances for Chelsea, and the 21-year-old’s clever movement and clinical finishing should make him one of the Blues’ biggest threats again this weekend.

Sheffield United vs Chelsea team news
Sheffield United are still unable to call upon injured trio Luke Freeman, Leon Clarke and John Fleck, though only the last of that aforementioned trio is considered a starter.

There are also injury concerns over David McGoldrick and Oliver McBurnie, though both attackers will hope to be fit enough to take a place on the bench at least.

Midfielder John Lundstram is also pushing to start having returned to the bench against Wolves.

Sheffield United predicted line-up: Henderson – Basham, Egan, O’Connell – Baldock, Berge, Norwood, Lundstram, Stevens – McGoldrick, Mousset

Fikayo Tomori, N’Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour are all out for Chelsea, though Mateo Kovacic is expected to recover from injury in time to feature.

Frank Lampard has options to choose from further up the pitch, though in-form American Christian Pulisic is expected to keep his place in the starting XI.

As always, Lampard has a decision to make upfront with Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham competing hard for one position.

Chelsea predicted line-up: Arrizabalaga – James, Christensen, Rudiger, Azpilicueta – Jorginho, Loftus-Cheek, Mount – Willian, Pulisic, Abraham
