SPAL vs Roma Preview, Betting Tips and Odds

SPAL vs Roma predictions ahead of this clash in Serie A on Wednesday.

SPAL’s fortunes unlikely to change
SPAL saw their spell in the top-flight end at the weekend, with their defeat at Brescia spelling the end of their time in Serie A. It was hardly a shock after their season of struggles, but it’s a bitter blow to a side who after two successful campaigns in the top division went down in their third.

The hosts have been poor throughout the campaign and they’ve been off the pace since the restart, failing to win any of their last eight matches. With seven defeats from those matches, we doubt that they will see their form turn in the run-in, with Roma visiting this ground in fine form after some strong results.

Roma among the goals
The visitors picked up a 2-2 draw with Inter Milan at the weekend, which was so nearly a 2-1 win. The Giallorossi dominated throughout, conceding a late goal or sacrifice two points. They will expect better this weekend, especially given their excellent run of form in front of goal of late. They’ve scored twice or more in four straight games, including a 3-0 win at second-bottom Brescia.

Roma have made four trips to the current bottom five, winning all of them, scoring 11 goals and conceding only once. They recorded a 3-1 win over SPAL in the reverse meeting, while they’ve averaged two goals per game against them during their current top-flight spell. With the hosts looking worse than ever, we see Roma adding to that with a few goals this weekend.

Another heavy loss for hosts
SPAL have lost five games on the bounce, conceding 14 goals across that run. We expect them to struggle against a strong Roma side, especially after losing 3-0 and 4-0 in their last two home matches. With 11 losses in 16 at this ground, SPAL look good for another loss in this clash. We expect the Giallorossi to add to their 29 goals in our predictions here.

All but one of Roma’s away wins have seen three or more goals scored, so expect the favourites to put on a show against a SPAL side who look all over the place at the back. The Giallorossi have scored three times in each of their wins over them in recent seasons, so we are backing Roma to win this clash and over 2.5 goals to be scored in total.

Given that Roma have already won to nil at three of the bottom five, we expect them to beat a SPAL side who have lost to nil in four of their last five matches. The Giallorossi should repeat their commanding performance against Brescia, another side who are doomed for the drop. As a result, a 3-0 away win is our correct score prediction here.
