Watford vs Manchester City Preview, Betting Tips and Odds

Watford vs Manchester City predictions for Tuesday’s Premier League clash at Vicarage Road.

Threat of relegation looms over Vicarage Road
Watford’s relegation danger continued to linger in midweek as they lost a crucial six-pointer against fellow relegation candidates West Ham. This brought an end to the Hornets’ two-match winning streak and leaves them 17th in the table, just three points clear of Bournemouth and Aston Villa with two games left to play.

While a three-point margin with two games remaining doesn’t sound too ominous, the fact that Watford has to face off against Manchester City and Arsenal in their final two games is a much more worrying fact. A win for either Bournemouth or Aston Villa in this final week of top-flight action could spell the end for Watford.

Fragile Man City look for response
Not many people will be giving the hosts a chance here, it’s worth noting that Manchester City are in a pretty fragile state coming into this game. They were knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend as they put in a subpar performance against Arsenal, and they have now lost three of their ten games since the restart.

Pep Guardiola’s side also has nothing to play for in the league, with the runner up spot already sealed and the title already is gone. That being said, Guardiola will not settle for lacklustre performances and will want to maintain confidence ahead of the resumption of the Champions League campaign next month.

One thing that continues to concern Citizens’ fans is their problems at the back, especially away from home. They have conceded in 16 of their last 22 competitive games away from the Etihad, and in the Premier League, they have only kept one clean sheet in their last four road trips.

Goals at both ends expected
Watford, meanwhile, has scored in nine of their last ten Premier League matches at Vicarage Road and, with both teams scoring in each of their last four games there, backing another lack of clean sheets looks a solid prediction.

It would take a brave man to bet against Manchester City here. Fragile they may be, but their record against Watford is outstanding. They have won each of their last 12 meetings with The Hornets and scored 46 goals in the process.

Two of the last five meetings have ended in 3-1 Manchester City victories, and considering Watford have lost two of their last five league matches by that scoreline, that’s what we’re backing for our correct score prediction.

Jesus impresses in Aguero’s absence
With Sergio Aguero ruled out, the time has finally arrived for Gabriel Jesus to prove his worth. The ageing Aguero will need to be replaced at some point, and Jesus will be keen to stamp his authority on that position after years of living in his Argentine teammates’ shadow.

The young Brazilian certainly has stepped up his game so far. He has netted in each of his last three Premier League appearances to take his tally up to 21 competitive goals for the season, along with an impressive nine assists.

At the age of 23, Jesus will know that this is his big chance at nailing down a starting spot up front at Manchester City. So far he’s living up to the demands of that role, and a continuation of this could see him fulfil his ambition.
