Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his central midfield with Thomas Partey widely believed to his to be his priority target.

But as we know, Atletico Madrid insist on paying the full amount (£44.5m) of his release clause, which is deemed too high for the Gunners along with his salary demands.

Thus, Arsenal have started seeking alternatives identifying Amadou Diawara as a player who fits the bill.

Thursday's editions of Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport have released similar reports on our pursuit of the 23-year-old.

Both newspapers confirm that Arsenal are ready to launch a £27m bid for the Roma midfielder. Gazzetta says the north Londoners will offer cash as Corriere reports that Lucas Torreira's involvement in the deal is still possible.

The latter outlet says the Giallorossi would prefer to pocket money, but getting the Uruguayan in exchange would be also acceptable.
