Arthur initiated Juventus transfer, not Barcelona: Bartomeu

Barcelona president Bartomeu has revealed that the Brazilian received a hefty offer for the Bianconeri and decided to leave.

At first, it's been reported that Barca pushed the midfielder to the exit in order to balance the books.

"Arthur's transfer to Juventus started with him," Josep Maria Bartomeu told Diario Sport.

The president elaborated on this issue: "He explained to us that he had an offer; we were unable to meet it. So he decided to leave, and then the whole operation started."

Previously, it's been widely suggested in the press that Barcelona forced the Brazilian to accept Juventus' offer in order to balance the club's books while the player was first unwilling to leave the Catalans.

Arthur joined the Bianconeri for €72m plus €10m in add-ons for his services while Miralem Pjanic moved in the opposite direction as part of the same deal for €60m plus €5m in add-ons.
