Eric Abidal to still continue as Barcelona sporting director

Barcelona's official statement suggests the Frenchman isn't going anywhere despite the infamous conflict with Leo Messi.

Apparently, Eric Abidal is set to continue at Barcelona's sporting director despite the initial fears.

There has been no official announcement regarding the Frenchman's fate.

Yet, the club's statement on Quique Setien's sacking mentions 'a wider restructuring of the first team which will be agreed between the current technical secretary and the new coach'.

The former Barca star has been heavily criticised during his brief spell as a sporting director, especially for the infamous public spat with Leo Messi back in February.

The Argentinian took to Instagram to tell his ex-teammate to mind his own business when Abidal suggested the Blaugrana players didn't train hard enough under Ernesto Valverde.
