Inter Milan vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction, Team news and lineup

Inter Milan vs Bayer Leverkusen predictions ahead of this Europa League quarter-final clash on Monday night.

Can Inter finally deliver?
Despite being one of Italy’s biggest sides, Inter Milan have continued to disappoint in European competition. The arrival of Antonio Conte was designed to lift them in the league, although given the concerns over Conte’s European record, could their struggles continue?

This is Inter’s first UEFA European quarter-final since the 2010-11 Champions League, when they lost to FC Schalke 04. Inter last reached a European semi-final in 2009-10, when they went on to win the Champions League. However, the Europa League offers an opportunity for both manager and club, with Conte’s Juve losing out in the semi-finals of this competition in 2014.

Conte has to make amends after his recent outbursts at the Inter hierarchy, but can they get through a tricky tie against Bayer Leverkusen? Our predictions see Inter taking a major step forward.

Can Bayer find consistency?
The Bundesliga side edged by Rangers in their second leg clash on Thursday, but they didn’t look all that sharp in that victory. That’s a concern for Leverkusen, who struggled to find consistency in their run-in. Their restart had plenty of damaging results, including a 4-1 loss to Wolfsburg, two heavy defeats to Bayern Munich and a loss to Hertha.

Like Inter, the German side dropped into this competition from the Champions League. They lost four of their six games, including home and away defeats to a Juventus side who finished only a point ahead of Inter. While the Nerazzurri stepped up this season to finish second, Leverkusen slipped to fifth in the Bundesliga.

Inter hitting their stride
While Conte is demanding more from his players, they are looking strong going into the latter stages of this competition. They edged out Getafe 2-0 on Thursday, which was their fourth consecutive win to nil. Inter have now kept six clean sheets in seven games, scoring at least twice in eight of their last nine matches.

They look perfectly balanced, with options going forward, talent on the bench and a solid backline. Inter are a serious contender for this competition, while Leverkusen have seen shaky form since returning to action. As a result, we’re backing Inter to claim a win, while a fourth straight 2-0 win for Conte’s men is our correct score prediction.
