Messi no longer at risk of suspension for quarter-finals

UEFA's new decision on yellow cards means Messi no longer at risk of suspension for quarter-finals.

All yellow cards expire on completion of the Champions League round of 16, UEFA officially stated on Tuesday.

They are no longer carried forward to the quarter-finals which was the case last season.

UEFA explained that the change of the format to single-leg matches in the knock-out stages forced them to make such a decision.

It means that Leo Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Nelson Semedo are no longer at risk of missing out the potential quarter-finals against either Bayern or Chelsea even if they get booked against Napoli.

Each player has been booked on two occasions.

Still, Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal remain suspended for the upcoming Napoli clash as both of them were yellow carded before the round of 16 is completed.
