OFFICIAL: La Liga backs Barcelona over Messi's €700m release clause

The saga is having another plot twist as the league clearly stands by Barcelona.

La Liga have released an official statement regarding Lionel Messi's current deal.

"Current deal is still valid and paying release clause for €700m is the only way out," it reads.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Messi's stance remains the same as the Argentine desperately wants to leave the club; the club won't let him go for free, however.

Earlier on, it was claimed by credible Cadena SER that Messi's release clause of €700m had expired and he's free to leave for a much lower price.
According to other reports, Leo already considers himself a free agent.
