Rivaldo fires back at Lothar Matthaus after his risky' prediction on Barcelona - Bayern tie

Rivaldo reminds everyone that it's Barcelona who have the best player in the world, not Bayern.

However, the Brazilian says he doesn't think that Matthaus was provoking Leo Messi with his words.

Bayern are not the clear-cut favourites in Friday's clash, he claims.

"To make anyone a clear favourite when you face Barcelona, who are full of confidence and have the best player in the world - Leo Messi - I think is a little risky," Rivaldo wrote for his Betfair column in reply to Lothar Matthaus' recent statements.

"Bayern are slight favourites. If it was a two-legged match, Barcelona would have less chance of progressing. In a one-off match, it's a magnificent opportunity for Barca.

They must focus for 90 minutes and take advantage of any Bayern errors. They'll have chances to advance.

"You have to understand his [Matthaus'] words. He's a former Bayern player and is a huge fan of Lewandowski: I don't think he was trying to provoke Messi," the Brazilian added.

The Bayern great was perhaps a bit arrogant as he rated his former side's chances against Barca much higher than the Catalans' ones.

Besides, he went on to say that Robert Lewandowski is currently the best player in the world, not Leo Messi.

Anyway, things like these can only be proved on the football pitch. On Friday, Barcelona will take on Bayern Munich at 21:00 CET.
