Ronald Araujo to get Spanish passport as Barcelona plan promoting the centre-back for 2020/21 season.

Barcelona plan to promote Ronald Araujo to the first team for the 2020/21 season, as Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed earlier.

Diario Sport say that Blaugrana will help the Uruguayan get a Spanish passport so he doesn't occupy a non-EU spot in the squad.

Currently, the only non-EU players in the squad are Arturo Vidal and Arthur Melo; the latter is leaving for Juventus.

In total, La Liga clubs are allowed to have five non-EU players in the squad but can call up only three players that come from outside Europe per match.

This season, Araujo has registered 22 games for Barca B and bagged three goals and three assists.

He also made six appearances for the senior side.
