Rudiger explains why Lampard first Premier League season was successful

Rudiger says that Lampard managed to lead a very young side to the Champions League and that's a commendable achievement.

Rudiger adds that the first season in the Premier League is always hard - it was no different for Klopp and Guardiola!

He says that it is important your coach always be authentic and while being a legendary footballer may not help in being the best manager, it's certainly not a disadvantage either.

"He is one of the greatest club legends ever at Chelsea. He had to take on a very difficult job here and lead a young team to the Champions League without any transfers," Antonio Rudiger praised Frank Lampard while speaking to Transfermarkt.

"We managed that together and we can build on that. The first year in the Premier League is always a special challenge – not only as a player but also as a manager. It was no different with Jürgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola.

"It is important that your coach is very authentic. Klopp or José Mourinho are two world-class examples who have not had an outstanding career as footballers themselves.

"But if you have won as many titles as our coach, that’s certainly not a disadvantage. As a player, you want to know how he did it and you’re eager to get that knowledge."

With 211 goals scored in all competitions, no player in Chelsea's history has scored more goals for the club than Lampard and the manager had a great homecoming as he led the Blues to a top 4 spot and the FA Cup final.

Rudiger is right - Pep failed to win the league in his first season whereas Klopp finished 8th with Liverpool back in 2016. Lampard is just starting his managerial career and we're sure that the best is yet to come from the gaffer!
