St Johnstone v Rangers Prediction, Team News and Odds

St Johnstone v Rangers predictions for Sunday’s clash at Ibrox.

Rangers looking sharp
Rangers have made the perfect start to their Scottish Premiership title bid, navigating the opening week despite a tricky schedule. The Gers have two wins from two in the Premiership despite facing a visit to Bayer Leverkusen in between, but they have seen off Aberdeen and St Mirren without conceding a goal to give their fans hope for the new campaign.

They are back at Ibrox on Wednesday aiming to make it nine points from nine when they take on a St Johnstone side who have played once so far. Missing last weekend’s match with Aberdeen means they’re only one game into their restart after a five-month break. Will that leave them lacking sharpness against a pace-setting Rangers side?

Blunt Saints
St Johnstone come into this clash after a string of low-scoring away games, so they’ll be aiming to keep things tight here. Across their last eight away games, the Saints have claimed three 1-0 wins, two 0-0s, two 1-1s and a 1-0 loss. Goals haven’t been easy to come by for the visitors, something which could hurt them at a solid Rangers side.

Last season wasn’t great for the Saints in front of goal, as they were the only team in the division not to get into double figures for goals on the road. St Johnstone only managed a paltry nine goals from their 13 away trips, while they scored the second-fewest overall last term with just 28 in 29 games. We’re backing them to come up short in attack in our predictions for this clash.

Another step forward for Gers
The hosts have looked good across their wins at Aberdeen and at home to St Mirren. They haven’t conceded in either of those successes, with their weekend win at Ibrox continuing their impressive record at home. Last season saw Gerrard’s men concede only seven times in 14 games, the joint-fewest home goals conceded in the division.

Rangers have won to nil in eight of their previous 12 home league games, while they meet a Saints side who have been involved in plenty of low scoring clashes. The fact that the visitors haven’t got the same minutes under their belt as Rangers – who head into their fourth competitive game of the season – adds extra edge for the hosts.

Gerrard has seen his men impress since returning to action, they claimed four wins to nil from four friendlies. They scored at least twice in each, while they’ve hit four goals in two games without reply. Rangers are well placed to claim a win in this clash, so we’re backing their form to continue with a home win to nil our first pick. On top of that, we’re backing a 2-0 victory for the hosts, who should have too much for the Saints in their return to action.

Gerrard’s men are boosted up front by Alfredo Morelos, who hit two goals at Ibrox on Sunday. He’s looking sharp and seems unbothered by the rumours surrounding him, so we’re backing Morelos to add to the six goals he’s scored in his last six meetings with St Johnstone.
