Van Dijk congratulates former boss Ronald Koeman on Barcelona move

As captain of the national team, Van Dijk said his goodbye to Koeman.

The defender mentioned that they have a special bond.

"I congratulate Ronald Koeman with his transfer to Barcelona. The Netherlands national team says goodbye to an experienced and successful coach.

But there is also a special connection between us," Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk has tweeted after the coach's appointment at Camp Nou.

"He brought me to the Premier League and made me the captain of the national team. I understand that he wants to fulfil his dream.

The recent events in the world and his personal life definitely play a role in that. Coach, good luck!"

Koeman has coached Van Dijk at Southampton and the national side. At the club level, the defender made 38 appearances and scored three goals under the 57-year-old.
